Liner Notes:
Dark, dark, dark - how often does a songwriter write from an addict's perspective? I don't know, probably loads of times, but for me it's a first. It's about a dear dear friend I lost many years ago now - over 20 years - to drug addiction. At last, I got out the emotion. This one wrenched a lot of out me. Let me know if it touched you. It features on album #28 in my ongoing Album-A-Month saga, which I started in April 2007, and find myself unable to stop! Downloads are free.
Lyrics:
NEEDLE IN THE GRAVE
When you call me from the grave,
I promise to give you hell, and cause you pain -
When you tell me what to do,
I'll come running, bewitched and confused.
I'll coming running...
Look at the needle in the grave
Pick it up and push it in
Your its slave
Look at the needle shining bright
Take it now, it is yours
You have the right x3
When the sun beats mid-day heat
I promise to let blood, never defeat -
When you shout and scream at me (why!)
I'll come crawling on my grated knees x2
Crawling x2
Look at the needle in the grave
Pick it up and push it in
Your its slave
Look at the needle shining bright
Take it now, it is yours
You have the right x2
Don't mix my head with your ripped sheets and your filthy bed
Don't mix my soul with your desire never to let me grow
Don't offer me your cute contempt
I'm exempt from your temptations
Oscillations, tribulating diatribe -
Look at the needle in the grave
Pick it up and push it in
Your its slave
Look at the needle shining bright
Take it now, it is yours
You have the right x3
