Sean Terrington Wright
Art

Sean Terrington paints impressionist watercolours. He seeks to capture the fleeting effects of light, atmosphere and mood in the wide variety of subjects he paints. He creates over 80% of his paintings on location, outside in nature. He paints in all kinds of weather. He is passionate about paint, and his style and vision are often dramatic. He loves the connection between the natural world and his paintbrush. Over the past 35 years, he has painted in many parts of Great Britain, as well as en plein air in Australia, Europe, and USA. He is a member of the SAA (Society for All Artists) and WNAA (West Norfolk Artists Association).

Sean trained in Graphic Design and Fine Art at the Isle College during the mid-Seventies, and has sketched, painted, and made prints for over 35 years. He has a Bachelor of Arts Hons degree, as well as a degree in teaching (P.G.C.E) from the Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. He considers 20th Century watercolour masters Edward Seago, Ted Wesson, and Rowland Hilder to be his biggest artistic influences, along with the 19th Century Impressionist art movement.

Sean has demonstrated painting techniques for art materials manufacturer Tollit & Harvey(Sennelier & Goldline products) in art venues across the UK. He tutors a variety of workshops and courses for both beginners and experienced artists, and gives watercolour demonstrations for art clubs and societies. He has successfully exhibited nationally with the British Watercolour Society, Society of Miniaturists, and the Yorkshire Pastel Society. His paintings have been widely collected, most notably by the late Queen Mother; Derek Oldfield, former conductor of the Iceni Orchestra; and Henry Bellingham, MP.

Sean has released a number of teaching watercolour DVDs. He is the originator and designer of The Terrington Tone Reducer - a handy gadget that helps artists gauge which areas fall into light, shade, half tones and shadow, when drawing or painting.

In 2013 his instructional articles and original artwork were published in the UK's best-selling learn-to-paint magazine, The Leisure Painter. He was also featured in "Paint" magazine in 2013. He will be demonstrating this July at the SAA's premier art show in London, and has been seen on Teaching Art's "Painting & Drawing" channel on Sky TV (channel 191).
